Wolvercote Young People’s Club goes from strength to strength
25 March 2023We have continued to offer three sessions a week and introduced a Young Women’s Group for those in Year 9 upwards. They have talked about issues including sexism and sexual harassment, self-care, and masking. They attended the Girlhood exhibition at The North Wall. This was tied together with fun activities such as nail painting and face mask creating.
At Christmas we launched our Youth Voice committee who have started looking into the club’s development. In time, the aim is for them to sit on the Board, making key decisions alongside the trustees.
We have provided holiday activities with good attendance, and the number of young people on our roll continues to increase. At February half term, everyone voted which workers got ‘cream-pied’ and what a mess they made. The usual sports, craft, and cooking are always available, but we have had themed evenings including Star Wars, Retro, and Pancake making.
The Media Suite has been further upgraded and young people have made good use of the facilities. We’ve been donated further equipment, and in time, may be able to offer photography workshops. Other areas of the building have also been improved.
Despite staffing challenges at the end of last year, we have stabilised this, and whilst we’re all part-time, we pride ourselves that we are able to provide a consistent service in the community.
We have had some positive talks with parents and members of the locality recently and are looking into possible support that we can provide to families, and have been working closely with our partners and funders to seek ways to continue to do this.
